Steamboat Trip and a Walking Tour
Set out in the countryside to relax and break away from the hustle and bustle of the city for a while.
During your historic steamboat cruise beautiful views of the picturesque natural secluded places by the meandering Vltava River are waiting for you. Boys (both young and adult) will then surely be enthused by the opportunity to see the engine room and the moving pistons which drive the wheel steamer.
You will also experience lifting the steamboat in the lock chamber by more than 10 m during your cruise.
Boats depart from Prague, but you go by car to the village of Štěchovice. There go along the main road past the bridge and then there is a car park with a parking fee of CZK 10 per day on the left behind the Pizzeria. Park and then walk back along the road. Past the bridge and opposite the shops there is a small jetty near the water to which a steamer arrives.
A boat sails from Štěchovice every Saturday and Sunday (01/05-14/09/2014) at 11.15 pm.
Tickets can be bought right on the boat (usually in the lounge on the lower deck).
Prices: CZK 200 for adults and CZK 100 for children (3-11 years)
A boat cruise, including the time you spend in the lock chamber, takes about 1 hour 15 minutes. Debark at the next and also the terminal “Slapy-Třebenice” station.
After debarking, you can either go to see the interesting Jan Nepomucky sculpture first or go back immediately, following the green tourist signs, along the path along the water trough. You will not only get beautiful views of the river, boats sailing on it, but also pass by diverse cottages, cabins, and other simple dwellings built by skilled Czechs there to spend their free time in harmony with nature. After about 6 km you will come to a signpost; there you must change the colour you follow and then follow the blue tourist signs in the direction of Štěchovice.
Pleasantly tired, you will get back to the village of Štěchovice, where you left your car. However, we also recommend visiting the local Hájek-Hájková confectionary before your drive; you have certainly deserved it fully.
Notice: Take good shoes and mainly a sufficient amount of snacks and drinks with you. There will be no chance to buy anything throughout your trip from the boat back to your car!!
