The complex in Frýdlant is interesting by harmonious unification of two architectural objects – a medieval castle and a Renaissance chateau. The castle was built in the 13th century on a strategic place in order to protect the crossroad of trade routes. Its oldest part is so called Old Castle or Upper Castle with nearly fifty metres high tower, which served as an orientation point or a lighthouse and has preserved up to these days.The recent exposition includes this oldest castle museum, orientated towards the Thirty Years War and the personage of Albrecht of Valdstein, further more the chapel with precious movables and two chateau wings.
